“A thriller is a type of mystery with a few key differences. As its name suggests, thrillers tend to be action-packed and fast-paced with moments full of tension, anxiety, and fear. Without fail, they are plot-driven stories. Whereas a good mystery may provide a deep dive into the clues that lead a detective to solve a crime, thrillers give you just enough information to provide a convincing motive for the characters to get back to the action. All thrillers are mysteries — readers want to know how the world will be saved or how to escape a serial killer — but not all mysteries are thrillers.

Thriller is a genre of fiction, having numerous, often overlapping subgenres. Thrillers are characterised and defined by the moods they elicit, giving viewers heightened feelings of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation and anxiety.

“The thriller genre movie and TV show definition is characterized by the moods it elicits. Thrillers are about the feeling of thrills! They are movies and TV shows that keep you wondering what will happen next. They give viewers heightened feelings of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation, and anxiety.

Thrillers also usually have a main character who is slowly isolated from the people they once trusted and relied on. The betrayal might thrust the protagonist into a new worldview. They have to work alone to prove their innocence or take down the people trying to kill them”

Summary

All of these talk about how thriller is all about the heightened anticipation and tension-filled moments. They both discuss the feelings of thrillers and the effect it invokes on the audience. 

 

It’s hard to properly define what exactly a thriller is as the genre is broad and it can be seen in the likes of drama or comedy or any other accompanying genre’s. It’s also difficult as most movies with the thriller genre have other aspects that play into it. There’s always a typical definition that talks specifically about the audience’s response and reaction but not really what the genre actually is.

Evaluation   1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? Narrative  Narrative of my film : a killer hidden in plain sight, in the position of love/caring, i.e. someone who we trust. My narrative is essentially a  well-known tailor with an alter ego of a serial killer, who kills by night, and is a tailor by day.  Their motive is not fully known, it’s rather personal and a mystery for the audience to uncode and discover. Her motive is past trauma, and her killings are a testament to her emerging from her trauma and growing. Credit Structure   The Task we had to carry out was to analyse the opening credits to identify what type of credits you get in a typical Hollywood film and in what order they are shown in, and therefore what should be included in our own opening titles.  Time Stamps: 1. Production credits i.e. the studios  2. Lead actors/actresses  3. Movie title  4. Supporting actors/actresses  5. Pre-production credits  6. Post-production credits  7. Target Audience

  Target audience  The outfit  'The Outfit' is a movie based on a tailor who produces clothes for top end people, who also happen to be criminals of a large gang and in order to outsmart he needs to outsmart them. I chose to use this movie as my target audience research solely because it involves a tailor who makes custom clothes for the higher/upper classes, just as my own character does.  - Mostly males may watch this movie, as it has heavy gun artillery and lots of killings and blood. Equally, mainly men are the self-proclaimed, “antagonists”, and they carry guns and seems to try/do overpower the others.  - 25-34 year olds would watch this because they may go to the tailor  for custom-made clothing, rather than significantly older people.  -  The main lead is an old, male tailor, who makes suits and clothes accustomed to family gangs of crime.   - Mainly upper class persons account for 39% of the whole 68% of class, and are therefore more likely to watch the film as it has u
